For 31 years the Ottawa Jazz Festival has made a tradition of presenting the most dynamic jazz artists on the scene; from the traditional to the avant-garde. The Festival aspires to make the arts inclusive in people’s everyday lives, adding intrinsic richness and purpose. 2011 was a banner year for the Festival. It entered the new decade with an ambitious new format that blew audiences away. For 11 steamy days in June and July audiences in the tens of thousands filled the Festival’s one-of-a-kind venue at Confederation Park, in the heart of downtown Ottawa, for stunning performances from artists such as k.d. lang, Return to Forever IV, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones and Daniel Lanois’ Black Dub. In total, the Festival delivered over 800 world-class artists on eight stages. With an average annual attendance of nearly 300,000, the Festival is a household name, and one of the highlights of summer in the Capital. |
